1. A longitudinally flexible stent for implanting in a body lumen, comprising:

  • a plurality of cylindrical elements each having undulations, the cylindrical elements being expandable in the radial direction and interconnected to be generally aligned on a common longitudinal axis;

    a plurality of interconnecting elements for interconnecting the cylindrical elements, the interconnecting elements configured to interconnect only the cylindrical elements that are adjacent to each other;

    the undulations having peaks connected by a pair of sides; and

    at least one interconnecting element between adjacent cylindrical elements, the at least one interconnecting element being attached along one of the sides of the undulations.
