Method and apparatus for monitoring message acknowledgements in a security system
First Claim
1. In a security system comprising a wireless transmitter, a plurality of wireless receivers in wireless communication with the wireless transmitter, and a control panel connected to the wireless receivers via a data communications bus, a method of operating the security system comprising the steps of:
- a. a first receiver of the plurality of receivers receiving a wireless message from a wireless transmitter, converting the wireless message to a digital message and placing the digital message in an output buffer for subsequent transmission to the control panel;
b. the first receiver monitoring data transmissions on the data communications bus from the control panel;
c. the first receiver detecting if an acknowledgement message has been sent on the data communications bus from the control panel, said acknowledgement message indicating that the control panel has successfully received a message from any of the plurality of receivers;
d. upon detecting an acknowledgement message, determining if the acknowledgement message indicates that the control panel has received a message from another receiver identical to the message in the first receiver output buffer;
e. if the control panel has already received a message from another receiver identical to the message in the first receiver output buffer, then discarding the message in the first receiver output buffer; and
f. if the control panel has not already received a message from another receiver identical to the message in the first receiver output buffer, then sending the message in the first receiver output buffer to the control panel.

Abstract
A wireless security system using multiple receivers in which each RF receiver can monitor the messages being sent to the control by the other receivers via constant monitoring of the bi-directional communication between the control and all of the other receivers on the bus. If a message in a first receiver'"'"'s transmission buffer matches a message that has already been acknowledged by the control from a second receiver, the first receiver can discard its duplicate message. This significantly reduces the number of messages that the control'"'"'s communication bus needs to handle, especially during the disarmed state of the system as indicated earlier. Coincidently, the amount of processing in the control is also reduced.
