1. A medical device comprising:
- a placement element having a distal end;
a tubular braided element mounted to the placement element and having an open outer end;
wherein the braided element is movable between a radially contracted state and a radially expanded state;
wherein said braided element assumes a funnel-shape when in its radially expanded state with its outer end spaced apart from the distal end of the placement element;
wherein the placement element is a hollow, outer catheter;
an inner catheter housed within the outer catheter, the inner catheter having a distal end extendable past the outer end of the braided element when in its radially expanded state;
a blocking element mounted to the inner catheter and movable between a radially contracted state and a radially expanded state;
whereby target matter within a body structure between the blocking element and the braided element can be captured within the braided element; and
a closing element at the outer end of the braided element.
