1. An exercise device, comprising:

  • a plurality of weights;

    a stationary base having a first end sized and configured to support a first group of the weights in a horizontal array, and an opposite, second end sized and configured to support a second group of the weights in a horizontal array, so that a horizontal axis extends through all of the weights in each said group;

    a member sized and configured for movement into and out of alignment with the weights, wherein the member includes a first portion that is axially aligned with the first group of weights, and a second portion that is axially aligned with the second group of weights, and a third portion disposed between the first portion and the second portion; and

    for each said group of weights, a selector rod mounted on the member and movable parallel to the axis relative to the member and into engagement with the weights in a respective said group of weights, wherein the selector rod that engages the first group of weights is movable to a position spanning at least one weight in the second group of weights in a direction extending parallel to the axis.
