1. A method of tracking changes in position of a plurality of remote stations, each having, the method comprising:
- (a) assigning a plurality of transmission slots to each of the remote stations;
(b) determining, by the respective stations, of their positions;
(c) initially transmitting, by the respective stations of their positions;
(d) determining, by the respective stations, of their positions, relative to the previously determined and transmitted positions; and
(e) subsequently transmitting, by the respective stations, of the determined relative positions, wherein the slots themselves indicate the relative determined position and wherein the determined relative position is indicated by the presence or absence of a signal in one or more of said plurality of slots.

1. A method of tracking changes in position of a plurality of remote stations, each having, the method comprising:

(a) assigning a plurality of transmission slots to each of the remote stations;
(b) determining, by the respective stations, of their positions;
(c) initially transmitting, by the respective stations of their positions;
(d) determining, by the respective stations, of their positions, relative to the previously determined and transmitted positions; and

3. A method according to claim 2 and including iteratively performing (f) and (g).

4. A method according to claim 3 wherein each of the stations performs (f) and (g) in each iteration.

5. A method according to claim 1 wherein each of the stations performs (b) and (c) before any of the stations perform (e).

A method according to claim 1 wherein a region surrounding a previously transmitted position is divided into a plurality of contiguous regions and wherein broadcasting relative positions comprises transmitting a signal in one or more of the transmission slots, which slot or slots indicate which of the regions contains the newly determined relative position.

7. A method according to claim 6 wherein the extent of the regions is established based on an expected maximum rate of change of the position.

8. A method according to claim 6 wherein the plurality of regions comprises 9 regions.

9. A method according to claim 8 wherein 9 slots are utilized for transmitting relative position information.

10. A method according to claim 8 wherein 5 slots are utilized for transmitting relative position information.

19. A method of mapping the positions of a plurality of remote stations, comprising:
-
(A) assigning a plurality of transmission slots to each of the remote stations;
(B) determining by the respective stations, of their positions;
(C) initially transmitting, by the respective stations, of a signal responsive to their determined positions in said at least one assigned slot, said transmitted position having a first position resolution; and
(D) subsequently transmitting, by the stations, of a signal related to their respective positions in at least one of the assigned transmission slots, said subsequent broadcast having a finer position resolution relative to said previously transmitted position, wherein the slot or slots themselves indicate the determined position and wherein the determined position is indicated by the presence or absence of a signal in one or more of said slot or slots. - View Dependent Claims (20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 29, 30, 31)
