2. The magnetic composite of claim 1 wherein the solid matrix comprises a ceramic.

3. The magnetic composite of claim 1 wherein the solid matrix comprises a polymer.

4. The magnetic composite of claim 1 wherein the filler is in the form of a whisker.

5. The magnetic composite of claim 1 wherein the filler is in the form of a plate.

6. The magnetic composite of claim 1 wherein the filler is in the form of a film.

7. A magnetic tape prepared from the magnetic composite material of claim 1.

8. The magnetic composite of claim 1 wherein the composite material comprises a combination of more than one filler composition.

9. A magnetic tape comprising:
a support having thereon a magnetic layer comprising a coated ferromagnetic powder dispersed in a filler, wherein the average grain size of the ferromagnetic powder is 100 nanometers or less. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11)

10. The magnetic tape of claim 9 wherein the thickness of the magnetic layer is from 1 nanometer to 1000 nanometer.

11. The magnetic tape of claim 9 wherein the ferromagnetic powder comprises barium ferrite.
