1. A connector (100 to 100a), for connecting ends of at least one pair of conductors (2323a) suitable for conveying an electrical or an optical signal, comprising:

  • a first housing (1010a 80) for receipt of at least a first of said conductors (2323a); and

    a second housing (1111a) for receipt of at least a second of said conductors (2323a);

    wherein the first housing (1010a 80) and the second housing (1111a) are adapted so as to mate one with the other either as a splice so as to be permanently connected, or by inserting one into a cavity of the other until the one slidably registers with a wall of said cavity at an advanced position, and then rotating the one within the other at the advanced position so as to cause an aligning of first contact elements (202141) in the first housing and second contact elements (202141) in the second housing, thereby connecting the ends of the at least one pair of conductors (2323a) in the first housing and in the second housing;

    and further wherein the connector (100100a) also includes at least one embedded integrated circuit (200200a) connected to at least one of the conductors (2323a) in the at least one pair of conductors (2323a).
