1. A method to assist an operator in identifying a fault in a fluid path of a renal replacement therapy device comprising the steps of:
- a. drawing blood from a patient into the fluid path, passing the blood through the path in the device, and returning the blood from the fluid path into the patient;
b. detecting a fault in the fluid path;
c. displaying a pictorial diagram of the fluid path on the machine graphic display, wherein said diagram further comprises a plurality of fluid path diagram segments, and d. accentuating one segment of said plurality of fluid path diagram segments, wherein said one segment accentuated corresponds to a segment of the fluid path where said fault is detected, and wherein at least one other segment of said plurality of fluid path diagram segments is not accentuated.

Abstract
A graphical user interface for a medical instruments for a Renal Replacement Therapy is disclosed that includes a pictogram representation of the fluid path of an extracorporeal blood circuit that represents fluid lines, pumps and sensors. To assist the user in responding to alarms and rectifying faults in the system the source of a potential trouble is animated. The location of a trouble spot is easily identified by flashing of the corresponding element of the pictogram, change of color or thickness of a corresponding line.

c. displaying a pictorial diagram of the fluid path on the machine graphic display, and d. accentuating an element of the diagram of the fluid path where the fault has been detected, wherein the pictorial diagram includes a first view of the fluid path and a second view of the fluid path, and further comprising selecting the first view or second view to be displayed in step (c) depending on the detected fault.
