1. A seat belt tension sensor for attachment between a seat belt and a vehicle structure comprising:

  • a housing having a cavity;

    an anchor plate having a first portion located in the cavity, the housing movable relative to the anchor plate between a first position and a second position;

    a strain gage sensor mounted to the housing, such that the housing presses on the sensor as the housing moves from the first to the second position, the sensor generating an electrical signal in response to the housing moving between the first and second positions, the electrical signal changing as a function of tension on the seat belt;

    a spring located between the sensor and the anchor plate, the spring urging the housing toward the first position, wherein the housing has a flange with a hole extending through the flange adapted to receive a seat belt loop and the anchor plate has a corresponding aperture for receiving the flange.
