1. In a CDMA cellular system that utilizes transmission diversity by transmitting a plurality of PN spread spectrum signals, a method of using a receiving station for communication of data transmitted as first and second PN spread spectrum modulated data signals where the first PN spread spectrum modulated data signal is formed by spreading and modulating the data with a first PN code and the second PN spread spectrum modulated data signal is formed by spreading and modulating the data with a second PN code which is different than the first PN code, the method comprising:

  • receiving a first spread spectrum signal carrying data that is spread and modulated with the first PN code and a second spread spectrum signal carrying the same data that is spread and modulated with the second PN code at said receiving station;

    despreading and demodulating the received first PN spread spectrum modulated data signal using the first PN code;

    despreading and demodulating the received second PN spread spectrum modulated data signal using the second PN code; and

    reconstructing the data from the despread and demodulated data signals.
