1. A replaceable lamp assembly for a water treatment system comprising:
- first and second ends with respective inlet and outlet openings therein and a conduit extending between the inlet and outlet openings;
a bulb assembly to irradiate water flowing from the inlet opening to the outlet opening in the conduit, the bulb assembly non-coaxial with said conduit, the bulb assembly including a longitudinal axis, the bulb assembly mounted to the first end in a socket that is substantially parallel to the inlet opening and that aligns the longitudinal axis of the bulb assembly parallel to the conduit;
an enclosure joined with and extending between the ends, said conduit preventing all irradiated water from contacting the enclosure; and
inlet and outlet seals mounted to the ends to fluidly seal the lamp assembly within a chamber of the water treatment system so that the lamp assembly is replaceable relative to the water treatment system, wherein at least one of said first and second ends is releasably secured to said conduit whereby said bulb assembly is accessible wherein one of said seals extends around an outer surface of one of said ends to circumferentially seal against a wall defining said chamber in said water treatment system.

Abstract
The present invention is directed to a replaceable lamp assembly for a point-of-use water treatment system (WTS). The lamp assembly includes first and second ends with respective sealed inlet and outlet openings associated with the ends. One or more conduits extend between the openings. A bulb assembly is positioned adjacent the conduit to irradiate liquid transferred in the conduit. A reflector assembly in the lamp assembly focuses radiation on the conduit. An enclosure surrounds the bulb and reflector assemblies such that lamp assembly becomes a generally closed pressure vessel.

3. The lamp assembly of claim 2 wherein:
the outlet valve is a check ball valve.
-
4. The lamp assembly of claim 1 wherein said inlet opening, said outlet opening and said conduit are aligned along a common axis.
-
5. The lamp assembly of claim 4 further including:
a light pipe which allows light from within the lamp assembly to pass outside the enclosure.
-
6. The lamp assembly of claim 4 further including:
a coil to power the lamp assembly.
-
7. The lamp assembly of claim 6 wherein:
the coil is mounted adjacent the second end.
-
8. The lamp assembly of claim 4 further comprising:
at least one additional conduit non-coaxial with the bulb assembly extending between the inlet and the outlet openings; and
the bulb assembly irradiates the additional conduit to sterilize the water passing therethrough.
-
9. The lamp assembly of claim 4 further including:
a reflector mounted within the enclosure which reflects and focuses radiation from the bulb assembly on to the conduit.
-
10. The lamp assembly of claim 4 wherein:
the enclosure includes first and second elongate enclosures which secure relative to the first and second ends to at least partially form the generally cloyd vessel.
-
11. The lamp assembly of claim 4 wherein:
the second end includes a mount which is capable of releasably mounting the lamp assembly to the water treatment system.
-
12. The lamp assembly of claim 11 wherein:
- the mount includes at least one bayonet member for bayonet mounting with a water treatment system.

13. A lamp assembly cartridge for a water treatment system, the water treatment system including a separate water treatment device having a chamber wall that defines at least part of a chamber, the cartridge comprising:
-
a first end;
a second end, distal from said first end;
a housing joined with the first end and the second end;
a conduit extending through said housing for conveying fluid, said conduit non-coaxial with said housing, said conduit forming a barrier between the fluid and the housing so that no fluid contacts the housing;
an outlet valve in fluid communication with the conduit;
a bulb within said housing that irradiates fluid in the conduit; and
a first seal mounted relative to the first end and a second seal mounted relative to said second end, said first seal extending around an outer surface of said first end to circumferentially engage the chamber wall to form a fluid tight seal between the lamp assembly cartridge and the chamber wall, said second seal engaging the second end to seal the second end relative to the outlet valve. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15)
