- polymeric basecoat layer;
color and parotective stack layer comprised of layers of carbon-rich refractory metal carbonitride or carbon-rich refractory metal alloy carbonitride alternating with layers of nitrogen-rich refractory metal carbonitride or nitrogen-rich refractory metal alloy carbonitride, wherein the carbon-rich carbonitride contains, a carbon content between 25 to 50 atomic percent and a nitrogen content between 5 to 35 atomic percent, wherein said carbon-rich refractory metal carbonitride or carbon-rich refractor metal alloy carbonitride contains a small amount of oxygen ranging from 2 to 15 atomic percent, and wherein the nitrogen-rich carbonitride contains a nitrogen content between 25 to 50 atomic percent and carbon content between 5 to 35 atomic percent.
