1. A method of controlling a locking mechanism of a differential in an all terrain vehicle, the method comprising sensing a transmission operational mode, detecting a vehicle speed, comparing said detected speed to a high-speed threshold and a low-speed threshold, always inhibiting actuation of said locking mechanism if:

  • (1) said transmission operational mode is four-wheel drive and said detected speed exceeds said high-speed threshold, or (2) said transmission operational mode is four-wheel drive and said detected speed is between said low-speed threshold and said high-speed threshold when actuation is selected until said detected speed is decreased below said low-speed threshold.
