Catheter anchoring system
First Claim
1. A catheterization system comprising:
- a catheter including an adaptor having a tubular body with at least one recess; and
a retainer including first and second channel portions which extend about a longitudinal axis, each channel portion generally having a truncated cross-sectional shape with an opening along said longitudinal axis, and the cross section of at least one of the first and second channel portions tapering along its length, and at least one projection that extends inwardly of the adjacent surfaces of the first and second channel portions toward the longitudinal axis and lies between said first and second channel portions, said projection having a longitudinal dimension substantially equal to the width of the recess of the catheter adaptor and less than the combined longitudinal lengths of said first and second channel portions to provide lateral stability of the adaptor within the retainer when the projection is positioned within the recess of the adaptor.

Abstract
A catheter anchoring system is provided to securely anchor to a patient'"'"'s skin a catheter and fluid supply tube interconnection. The anchoring system comprises a retainer configured to receive a catheter adaptor in a variety of positions. The adaptor interconnects the catheter and the fluid supply tube. In one embodiment the adaptor takes the form of a conical-shaped fitting permanently attached to the collar and includes a recess which extends around the circumference of the adaptor. The anchoring system additionally includes a flexible, adhesive anchor pad which supports a tube clip, as well as the retainer. The retainer includes a channel that is configured to receive the adaptor in a snap-fit manner. The retainer also includes a plurality of projections. Each projection is sized to be received by a recess of the adaptor to prevent the adaptor from sliding within the channel.

9. An anchoring system for use with a catheter having an adaptor with at least one annular groove, said anchoring system comprising:
-
a retainer including first and second channel portions that extend about a longitudinal axis, each channel portion generally having a truncated circular cross-sectional shape with an opening lying to a side of said longitudinal axis, the cross section of at least one of the first and second channel portions tapering along its length to form a truncated conical shape, and a projection extending toward said longitudinal axis and lying between said first and second channel portions, said projection having a longitudinal length so dimensioned to substantially equal the thickness of the annular grooves of said adaptor; and
a flexible anchor pad having an adhesive bottom surface and a top surface on which said retainer is mounted, said retainer being positioned on said top surface in a position exposing the openings of said channel portions. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11, 12, 13)

14. A catheterization system comprising:
-
a catheter including an adaptor having a body at least a portion of which has a conical shape with at least one recess; and
a retainer including a channel portion that extends about a longitudinal axis, the channel portion generally having a truncated cross-sectional shape with an opening that lies generally parallel to the longitudinal axis, and the cross section of the channel portion tapering along its length, and at least one projection that extends inwardly toward the longitudinal axis and lies generally within the channel portion, said projection being configured to fit within the recess of the adaptor and being dimensioned to inhibit longitudinal movement of the adaptor within the retainer when the projection is inserted into the recess. - View Dependent Claims (15, 16, 17, 18)

19. Am anchoring system, for use with a catheter having an adaptor, said anchoring system comprising:
-
a retainer including first and second channel portions that extend about a longitudinal axis, each channel portion generally having a truncated circular cross-sectional shape with an opening lying above said longitudinal axis each of said openings having a lateral width less than a diameter of the channel portion so as to receive the adaptor in a generally snap-fit manner, and a projection extending toward said longitudinal axis and lying between said first and second channel portions, said projection being positioned to cooperate with the adaptor to inhibit longitudinal motion of the catheter through the retainer when the adaptor is received by the retainer; and
a flexible anchor pad having an adhesive bottom surface and a top surface on which said retainer is mounted, said retainer being positioned on said top surface.
