1. A continuous level sensor, comprising:
- a tube having a body with a first end for receiving a material;
an acoustic transducer for producing sound in said tube;
a driver for driving said acoustic transducer at a plurality of frequencies, wherein said acoustic transducer is driven for a time sufficient to produced resonance;
a decay sensor for sensing sound decay in said tube; and
a processor for determining the position of the material in said tube based on the sound decay of a resonant frequency in said tube.

Abstract
Resonant decay sensors that determine a parameter based on the decay of acoustic standing waves in a tube. Parameters that can be determined include temperature, pressure, the level of a material in the tube, and the height of a material above an end of the tube. Resonant decay sensors can produce both point level and continuous level sensors. A vibration mount, such as a rubber ring, beneficially isolates an acoustic transducer from the body of the tube.
