1. A CDMA cellular system that utilizes transmission diversity by transmitting a plurality of PN spread spectrum signals for communicating data comprising:

  • a transmitting station including;

    an encoder configured to spread and modulate data with a first PN code to form a first PN spread spectrum modulated data signal carrying the data and to spread and modulate the same data with a second PN code which is different than said first PN code to form a second PN spread spectrum modulated data signal carrying the data; and

    a transmitter configured to transmit said first and a second PN spread spectrum modulated data signals; and

    a receiving station including;

    a receiver configured to receive said first and a second PN spread spectrum modulated data signals;

    a despreader and demodulator configured to despread and demodulate the received first and second PN spread spectrum modulated data signals; and

    a combiner configured to reconstruct the data from the despread and demodulated data signals.
