Abstract

In an optical disk storing digital image information in the form of a succession of blocks, each comprising a plurality of frames comprising I-, P- and B-pictures, wherein an address format is preformatted in front of the block of image information of said plurality of frames, and the data arrangement within each image information blocks is such that I- and P-pictures are collectively disposed. The position of the I-pictures within each block is shifted from one block to another. The I-picture data may be divided into fraction according to the position on the screen, the DCT frequency, or layering, and the fractional I-picture data may be arranged in the image information blocks, and a header or parity signal is recorded in front of each fractional I-picture data. With such a configuration, it is possible to increase the speed of fast playback, and realize smooth playback picture.

Claims

1. An optical disk having digital image information recorded thereon, at least a portion of said digital image information being accessed by a playback device during playback to reproduce images, the digital image information comprising an image information block including I-picture data for intra-frame coded pictures, P-picture data for predictive coded pictures, and B-picture data for bidirectionally predictive coded pictures, said disk comprising:

a plurality of recording sectors, each sector being associated with an address recorded on said optical disk; and

a plurality of tracks, each track including a plurality of recording sectors;

wherein the image information block includes

a video attribute data region preceding the I-picture data, the P-picture data, and the B-picture data thereof, said video attribute data region containing picture arrangement or position information, which indicates an arrangement or position of coded pictures in the corresponding image information block on accessing during playback to read at least I-picture data of the digital image information in the corresponding image information block,

jump destination information, which indicates an address the next image information block to be played back during said playback to read at least I-picture data, and

information that is accessed by said playback device during said playback to read at least I-picture data, said information being for indicating to said playback device whether the corresponding image information block should be reproduced.

2. The optical disk according to claim 1, wherein said information indicates presence or absence of a scene change in the image information block.

3. The optical disk according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said picture arrangement or position information indicates an arrangement or position of I-picture data in the corresponding image information block.

An apparatus for playing back video information from an optical disk, said optical disk having digital image information recorded thereon, the digital image information comprising an image information block including I-picture data for intra-frame coded pictures, P-picture data for predictive coded pictures, and B-picture data for bidirectionally predictive coded pictures, the image information block including a video attribute data region preceding the I-picture data, the P-picture data, and the B-picture data thereof, said video attribute data region containing

picture arrangement or position information, which indicates an arrangement or position of coded pictures in the corresponding image information block,

jump destination information which indicates an address of the next image information block to be played back during said playback to read at least I-picture data, and

information that is accessed during said playback to read at least I-picture data, said information being for indicating whether the corresponding image information block should be reproduced,

said apparatus comprising:

a disk motor for rotating said disk; and

an optical head for emitting light onto said disk and receiving light reflected from said disk to reproduce information recorded thereon;

wherein said apparatus, during playback, reads the video attribute data corresponding to an image information block,

in the case that said information indicates the corresponding image information block should be reproduced, reads at least I-picture data of the digital image information in the corresponding image information block based on said picture arrangement or position information, and jumps to the next image information block to be reproduced by said optical head in accordance with said jump destination information,

in the case that said information indicates the corresponding image information block should not be reproduced, jumps to the next image information block to be reproduced by said optical head in accordance with said jump destination information without reading the corresponding image information block.

5. The apparatus according to claim 4, wherein said information indicates presence or absence of a scene change in the image information block.

6. The apparatus according to claim 4 or 5, wherein said picture arrangement or position information indicates an arrangement or position of I-picture data in the corresponding image information block.

A method of playing back video information from an optical disk, said optical disk having digital image information recorded thereon, the digital image information comprising an image information block including I-picture data for intra-frame coded pictures, P-picture data for predictive coded pictures, and B-picture data for bidirectionally predictive coded pictures, the image information block including a video attribute data region preceding the I-picture data, the P-picture data, and the B-picture data thereof, said video attribute data region containing

picture arrangement or position information, which indicates an arrangement or position of coded pictures in the corresponding image information block,

jump destination information which indicates an address of the next image information block to be played back during said playback to read at least I-picture data, and

information that is accessed during said playback to read at least I-picture data, said information being for indicating whether the corresponding image information block should be reproduced,

said method comprising:

reading, during playback, the video attribute data corresponding to an image information block,

in the case that said information indicates the corresponding image information block should be reproduced, reading at least I-picture data of the digital image information in the corresponding image information block based on said picture arrangement or position information, and jumping to the next image information block to be reproduced by said optical head in accordance with said jump destination information,

in the case that said information indicates the corresponding image information block should not be reproduced, jumping to the next image information block to be reproduced by said optical head in accordance with said jump destination information without reading the corresponding image information block.

8. The method according to claim 7, wherein said information indicates presence or absence of a scene change in the image information block.

9. The method according to claim 7 or 8, wherein said picture arrangement or position information indicates an arrangement or position of I-picture data in the corresponding image information block.

10. A method of recording, on an optical disk, digital information comprising an image information block including I-picture data for intra-frame coded pictures, P-picture data for predictive coded pictures, and B-picture data for bidirectionally predictive coded pictures, said method comprising:

disposing a video attribute data region of a corresponding image information block, preceding the I-picture data, P-picture data and B-picture data in the image information block;

said disk comprising;

a plurality of recording sectors, each sector being associated with an address recorded on said optical disk; and

a plurality of tracks, each track including a plurality of recording sectors;

wherein said video attribute data region contains picture arrangement or position information, which indicates an arrangement or position of coded pictures in the corresponding image information block on accessing during playback to read at least I-picture data of the digital image information in the corresponding image information block,

jump destination information, which indicates an address of the next image information block to be played back during said playback to read at least I-picture data, and

information that is accessed during said playback to read at least I-picture data, said information being for indicating whether the corresponding image information block should be reproduced.

11. An apparatus for recording, on an optical disk, digital image information comprising an image information block including I-picture data for intra-frame coded pictures, P-picture data for predictive coded pictures, and B-picture data for bidirectionally predictive coded pictures, said apparatus comprising:

a unit for disposing a video attribute data region of a corresponding image information block, preceding the I-picture data, P-picture data and the B-picture data in the image information block;

said disk comprising;

a plurality of recording sectors, each sector being associated with an address recorded on said optical disk; and

a plurality of tracks, each track including a plurality of recording sectors;

wherein said video attribute data region contains picture arrangement or position information, which indicates an arrangement or position of coded pictures in the corresponding image information block on accessing during playback to read at least I-picture data of the digital image information in the corresponding image information block,

jump destination information, which indicates an address of the next image information to be played back during said playback to read at least I-picture data, and

information that is accessed during said playback to read at least I-picture data, said information being for indicating whether the corresponding image information block should be reproduced.

12. An optical disk having digital image information recorded thereon, at least a portion of said digital image information being accessed by a playback device during playback to reproduce images, the digital image information comprising an image information block including I-picture data for intra-frame coded pictures, P-picture data for predictive coded pictures, and B-picture data for bidirectionally predictive coded pictures, said disk comprising:

a plurality of recording sectors, each sector being associated with an address recorded on said optical disk; and

a plurality of tracks, each track including a plurality of recording sectors;

wherein the image information block includes

a video attribute data region preceding the I-picture data, the P-picture data, and the B-picture data thereof, said video attribute data region containing picture arrangement or position information, which indicates an arrangement or position of coded pictures in the corresponding image information block on accessing during playback to read at least I-picture data of the digital image information in the corresponding image information block,

jump destination information, which indicates an address of the next image information block to be played back during said playback to read at least I-picture data, and

information that is accessed by said playback device during said playback to read at least I-picture data, said information being for indicating whether an image information block should be reproduced.

An apparatus for playing back video information from an optical disk, said optical disk having digital image information recorded thereon, the digital image information comprising an image information block including I-picture data for intra-frame coded pictures, P-picture data for predictive coded pictures, and B-picture data for bidirectionally predictive coded pictures, the image information block including a video attribute data region preceding the I-picture data, the P-picture data, and the B-picture data thereof, said video attribute data region containing

picture arrangement or position information, which indicates an arrangement or position of coded pictures in the corresponding image information block,

jump destination information which indicates an address of the next image information block to be played back during said playback to read at least I-picture data, and

information that is accessed during said playback to read at least I-picture data, said information being for indicating whether an image information block should be reproduced,

said apparatus comprising:

a disk motor for rotating said disk; and

an optical head for emitting light onto said disk and receiving light reflected from said disk to reproduce information recorded thereon;

wherein said apparatus, during playback,

reads the video attribute data corresponding to an image information block,

in the case that said information indicates that an image information block should be reproduced, reads at least I-picture data of the digital image information in the image information block based on said picture arrangement or position information, and jumps to the next image information block to be reproduced by said optical head in accordance with said jump destination information,

in the case that said information indicates that an image information block should not be reproduced, jumps to the next image information block to be reproduced by said optical head in accordance with said jump destination information without reading the image information block.

A method of playing back video information from an optical disk, said optical disk having digital image information recorded thereon, the digital image information comprising an image information block including I-picture data for intra-frame coded pictures, P-picture data for predictive coded pictures, and B-picture data for bidirectionally predictive coded pictures, the image information block including a video attribute data region preceding the I-picture data, the P-picture data, and the B-picture data thereof, said video attribute data region containing

picture arrangement or position information, which indicates an arrangement or position of coded pictures in the corresponding image information block,

jump destination information which indicates an address of the next image information block to be played back during said playback to read at least I-picture data, and

information that is accessed during said playback to read at least I-picture data, said information being for indicating whether an image information block should be reproduced,

said method comprising:

reading, during playback, the video attribute data corresponding to an image information block,

in the case that said information indicates that an image information block should be reproduced, reading at least I-picture data of the digital image information in the image information block based on said picture arrangement or position information, and jumping to the next image information block to be reproduced by said optical head in accordance with said jump destination information,

in the case that said information indicates that an image information block should not be reproduced, jumping to the next image information block to be reproduced by said optical head in accordance with said jump destination information without reading the image information block.

15. A method of recording, on an optical disk, digital information comprising an image information block including I-picture data for intra-frame coded pictures, P-picture data for predictive coded pictures, and B-picture data for bidirectionally predictive coded pictures, said method comprising:

disposing a video attribute data region of a corresponding image information block, preceding the I-picture data, P-picture data and B-picture data in the image information block;

said disk comprising;

a plurality of recording sectors, each sector being associated with an address recorded on said optical disk; and

a plurality of tracks, each track including a plurality of recording sectors;

wherein said video attribute data region contains picture arrangement or position information, which indicates an arrangement or position of coded pictures in the corresponding image information block on accessing during playback to read at least I-picture data of the digital image information in the corresponding image information block,

jump destination information, which indicates an address of the next image information block to be played back during said playback to read at least I-picture data, and

information that is accessed during said playback to read at least I-picture data, said information being for indicating whether an image information block should be reproduced.

16. An apparatus for recording, on an optical disk, digital image information comprising an image information block including I-picture data for intra-frame coded pictures, P-picture data for predictive coded pictures, and B-picture data for bidirectionally predictive coded pictures, said apparatus comprising:

a unit for disposing a video attribute data region of a corresponding image information block, preceding the I-picture data, P-picture data and the B-picture data in the image information block;

said disk comprising;

a plurality of recording sectors, each sector being associated with an address recorded on said optical disk; and

a plurality of tracks, each track including a plurality of recording sectors;

wherein said video attribute data region contains picture arrangement or position information, which indicates an arrangement or position of coded pictures in the corresponding image information block on accessing during playback to read at least I-picture data of the digital image information in the corresponding image information block,

jump destination information, which indicates an address of the next image information to be played back during said playback to read at least I-picture data, and

information that is accessed during said playback to read at least I-picture data, said information being for indicating whether an image information block should be reproduced.
