1. A voice over Internet (VOIP) system, comprising:

  • at least one access point communicating with one or more mobile stations (MS) using a wireless device over-the-air protocol different from Internet protocol (IP), the access point including;

    a first logic component configured for transforming information from an MS in wireless device protocol to IP protocol, the first logic component configured for encapsulating authentication parameters in IP;

    a second logic component configured for sending a message containing the information in IP toward a gateway configured for stripping the authentication parameters therefrom; and

    a third logic component for defining a header indicating the presence of the authentication parameters in the message and a media type corresponding to the authentication parameters.
