19. A method for retracting an incision comprising the steps of:

making an incision in a patient;
providing a wound retractor comprising a central longitudinal axis, a distal ring, a proximal ring, and a sleeve extending at least between the distal ring and the proximal ring, the sleeve being fixed to the proximal ring at a first end portion of the sleeve, and a second end portion of the sleeve being slidingly received over a portion of the proximal ring;
inserting the distal ring through the incision such that the sleeve extends through the incision and the proximal ring is located outside of the incision; and
