A method for the polymerization of 2,3-bis(4-phenyloxyphenyl)-6-quinoxaline-carboxylic acid which comprises heating said 2,3-bis(4-phenoxyphenyl)-6-quinoxaline-carboxylic acid in a polymerization medium consisting of polyphosphoric acid with 83% P2O5 content with 25 weight percent additional P2O5 relative to said polyphosphoric acid to a temperature of about 130°
- C. for about 24 hours and recovering the resulting polymer.
