Selective coating of a balloon catheter with lubricious material for stent deployment
First Claim
1. A balloon catheter having a shaft and a balloon associated therewith and a stent carried on said balloon, the balloon having a proximal end portion, a distal end portion and a central portion positioned between the proximal end portion and the distal end portion, wherein the stent is positioned over the central portion, the central portion having a first layer disposed exteriorly thereon, the first layer on the central portion being exposed to the stent, the distal end portion having a first layer disposed exteriorly thereon, the first layer on the distal end portion being exposed, wherein the first layer on the central portion has a higher coefficient of friction than the first layer on the distal end portion the proximal end portion, having a first layer disposed exteriorly thereon, the first layer on the proximal and portion being exposed, wherein the first layer on the central portion has a higher coefficient of friction than the first layer on the proximal end portion and wherein the first layers on the distal and proximal portions of the balloon form one layer and cover the entire balloon, such that it is between the balloon and the first layer on the central portion.
