1. A system for remotely monitoring patient variables comprising:
- at least one patient-wearable, multi-variable sensor means for acquiring medically relevant data from a patient;
a patient-wearable monitoring unit connected to the sensor;
said patient-wearable monitoring unit comprising a processor means for formatting sensor data from said patient into Extensible Markup Language (XML) and a wireless communication device connected to a first wireless network, wherein said first wireless network includes means adapted to send and receive communications over the Internet and a second network;
a Host data archive connected to the Internet to communicate with a plurality of the patient-wearable monitoring units and archive data using XML;
a plurality of medical care provider terminal means connected to the second network for communication in a bi-directional manner over said first and second network between each medical care provider and the patient-wearable monitoring unit of a patient under the medical care provider'"'"'s care, and wherein said plurality of medical care provider terminals are further connected to the Internet for bi-directional XML data communication with said Host data archive.

Abstract
A system and method for monitoring patient variables in a wireless manner via a patient worn monitoring device is disclosed. The patient monitoring device is wearable and connects to a variety of sensors with at least one microphone for voice communications. The device connects to a wireless network and thence to the Internet for transmitting data to a Host for access by a medical care provider. The medical care provider communicates with the patient-wearable device via the Internet and the wireless network to send instructions to the patient-wearable monitoring unit and to communicate via voice with the patient. The medical care provider can also flexibly reconfigure the device to change collection parameters. When an alarm limit is exceeded as detected by the sensors, the data are transmitted to the Host computer for use by the medical care provider, thereby allowing full mobility to the patient wearing the device.

supplying a plurality of patients with a patient-wearable monitoring unit connected to at least one patient-wearable, multi-variable sensor that acquires medically relevant data from the patient;
wherein each patient-wearable monitoring unit includes a processor formatting said data from said patient into Extensible Markup Language (XML) and further includes a wireless communication device connecting said patient-wearable monitoring unit to a first wireless network;
said first wireless network sending and receiving communications over the Internet and a second network;
each monitoring unit sending and receiving XML data communications over the first wireless network with a Host data archive connected to the Internet; and
