14. A sealing apparatus, which comprises:
-
a housing being mountable to an elongate shaft including an axial lumen;
a sealing member defining a cavity and having at least a portion thereof disposed within the housing, the sealing member being spherically moveable relative to the elongate shaft; and
a sealing element mounted to the housing and being configured for moveably supporting and forming a substantial seal with the sealing member during movement thereof, the sealing element having a resilient portion being configured to bias the cavity of the sealing member in general alignment with a longitudinal axis of the elongate shaft upon off axis manipulation of an object positioned within the sealing member. - View Dependent Claims (15)

16. A sealing apparatus comprising:
-
a housing having a proximal and a distal portion, the housing being detachably mountable to a cannula assembly including a cannula housing and a cannula, the cannula having an axial lumen and defining a longitudinal axis, the housing including a passageway in communication with the axial lumen of the cannula;
an elastomeric sealing member defining a cavity configured for receipt of and forming a substantial seal with an instrument, the sealing member being movably disposed within a pathway of the housing, the sealing member having a spherically shaped cross-section such that the cavity of the sealing member is spherically moveable relative to the cannula, the sealing member further including a plurality of biasing members radially extending therefrom and being configured to engage an inner surface of the housing so as to bias the sealing member to a centered position relative to the housing; and
an annular sealing element being mounted to the housing, the annular sealing element defining a cavity and including a flange, the sealing member being movably supported on the flange and forming a substantial seal therewith, wherein at least a portion of the cavity defined by the sealing element is capable of substantial alignment with at least a portion of the cavity of the sealing member. - View Dependent Claims (17)
