1. A method of controlling an exhaust gas aftertreatment system of an internal combustion engine, the method comprising:
- predetermining a state quantity characterizing a state of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system based on at least one pressure difference between a pressure upstream from the exhaust gas aftertreatment system and a pressure downstream from the exhaust gas aftertreatment system, the predetermining occurring when first operating states of the internal combustion engine are present; and
simulating the state quantity based on at least one characteristic operating quantity of the internal combustion engine when second operating states are present, the at least one characteristic operating quantity excluding pressure difference between a pressure upstream from the exhaust gas aftertreatment system and a pressure downstream from the exhaust gas aftertreatment system.

-
predetermining a state quantity characterizing a state of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system based on at least one pressure difference between a pressure upstream from the exhaust gas aftertreatment system and a pressure downstream from the exhaust gas aftertreatment system, the predetermining occurring when first operating states of the internal combustion engine are present; and
simulating the state quantity based on at least one characteristic operating quantity of the internal combustion engine when second operating states are present;
wherein a second operating state is present when a volume flow quantity that characterizes an exhaust gas volume flow is smaller than a first threshold value.
