1. A method of creating a continuous lesion in cardiac tissue, comprising the steps of:

  • providing an ablating device having an ablated element and an elongate guide member;

    positioning the elongate guide member adjacent at a fixed position adjacen to cardiac tissue where a continuous lesion is desired;

    ablating tissue with the ablating element a number of times after the positioning step to create a plurality of lesions which together form the continuous lesion in the cardiac tissue; and

    moving the ablating element along the elongate guide member to a plurality of positions to create the plurality of lesion while the guide member remains in the fixed position.
