1. A method of treating a blood product in a blood bag, comprising:

  • a) providing i) a blood bag comprising a photoreactive compound and a blood product suspected of containing a pathogen and ii) a blood treatment device comprising a fluorescent bulb and a blood bag support, wherein the end of the fluorescent bulb is blocked from irradiating the blood product;

    b) positioning the blood bag on the blood bag support; and

    c) irradiating the blood bag with the fluorescent bulb so as to activate the photoreactive compound and inactivate the pathogen.
