1. An introducer and sheath assembly comprising:
- an elongate introducer member, an inflatable balloon supported on said introducer member;
a tubular sheath adapted to surround said introducer member and said inflatable balloon, said tubular sheath having a weakened region which extends along its longitudinal axis from a proximal region to a distal region of said tubular sheath; and
a handle on the proximal region of said tubular sheath, wherein transverse movement of said handle with respect to the longitudinal axis and proximal movement of said handle along said longitudinal axis causes said weakened region to be drawn against said introducer member to separate said weakened region, thereby allowing said tubular sheath to be removed from said introducer member, said handle having at least one inwardly directed latch adapted to secure said handle to said introducer member.

Abstract
An apparatus for creating an anatomic space in tissue in a body includes an introducer and a sheath. The tubular sheath may surround the introducer, and may have a weakened region along its longitudinal axis. A handle may be provided on the sheath. The handle may be adapted to be pulled proximally to separate the weakened region and allow the sheath to be removed from the introducer. The sheath may be secured to the introducer via detents or latches on the handle.

3. An introducer and sheath assembly comprising:
-
an elongate introducer member, a tubular sheath adapted to surround said introducer member, said tubular sheath having a weakened region which extends along its longitudinal axis from a proximal region to a distal region of said tubular sheath; and
a handle on the proximal region of said tubular sheath, wherein proximal movement of said handle along said longitudinal axis causes said weakened region to separate as said weakened region is drawn against said introducer member, thereby allowing said tubular sheath to be removed from said introducer member, said handle having one or more inwardly directed protrusions and said introducer member having one or more corresponding recesses for securing the handle to said introducer member. - View Dependent Claims (4)

5. An introducer and sheath assembly comprising:
-
an elongate introducer member, an inflatable balloon supported on said introducer member;
a tubular sheath adapted to surround said introducer member and said inflatable balloon, said tubular sheath having a weakened region which extends along its longitudinal axis from a proximal region to a distal region of said tubular sheath; and
a handle on the proximal region of said tubular sheath, wherein transverse movement of said handle with respect to the longitudinal axis and proximal movement of said handle along said longitudinal axis causes said weakened region to be drawn against said introducer member to separate said weakened region, thereby allowing said tubular sheath to be removed from said introducer member, said introducer member having one or more recesses formed in a wall of said introducer member to engage said handle for securing said handle to said introducer member.
