1. A portable light-emitting device for delivering light to the blood supply of a human body of a subject through a nonocular area of skin on the human body, comprising:

  • (a) an attachment for securing the light-emitting device to a portion of the human body;

    (b) a portable light delivery unit comprising an array including interconnected, elongate strips, each strip including a plurality of linearly arranged light sources, each light source providing focused light within a cone of light illumination having an angle of from about 15°

    to about 30°

    , the portable light delivery unit being connected to the attachment for providing light to the blood supply through skin of the portion of the human body; and

    (c) a portable power supply connected to the portable light delivery unit.
