1. A petal deployment hinge assembly for connecting a petal of a sectored mirror of an optical space telescope to the central hub of the sectored mirror, the hinge assembly comprising:

  • a) a root mount secured to a root of the petal;

    b) a hub mount secured to the central hub;

    c) an axial hinge shaft supported by the root mount; and

    d) a cylindrical bearing cage disposed about the hinge shaft and housed within the hub mount for affording rotational and axial movement of the root mount relative to the hub mount along the axis of the hinge shaft.
