1. A method of controlling a fan motor which is arranged to cool a substantially closed structure to be cooled, and arranged to be controlled by an inverter whose output is connected to the fan motor and which comprises output switching components, zero diodes connected in parallel with them and gate drivers, which are arranged to control the switching components of the inverter output according to switching instructions, the method comprising the steps ofdetermining the temperature of the object to be cooled or a variable proportional to the temperature to form a control variable, controlling the frequency of the inverter output voltage on the basis of the control variable, andcontrolling the effective value of the inverter output voltage on the basis of the control variable, wherein the control of the effective value of the inverter output voltage comprises a step where common control information is produced for the gate drivers on the basis of a control signal, the control information being used for controlling the switching components of the inverter output to a non-conductive state.
