1. A generator, comprising:

  • a stator; and

    a rotor rotationally mounted at least partially within at least a portion of the stator, the rotor including;

    a shaft,at least a first and a second pole, each pole extending radially outwardly from the shaft and spaced apart from one another to form an interpole region therebetween,a first coil on the first pole, the first coil having at least an outwardly facing edge facing generally away from the shaft,a second coil on the second pole, the second coil having at least an outwardly facing edge facing generally away from the shaft, andan interpole retainer wedge positioned over at least a portion of the interpole region, and disposed between the outwardly facing edges of the first and second coils and surfaces of each of the first and second poles,wherein the interpole retainer wedge is constructed of a composite material.
