- providing a computer-based processing tool operating on a computer system;
accessing via said computer system a first quantity of information reflecting said first semantic environment of said first user system, said quantity of information defining a first data collection;
first operating said computer-based processing tool using said data collection to identify a first set of semantic elements that at least partially define said first semantic environment;
accessing a second quantity of information reflecting said first semantic environment, said second quantity of information relating to said content under consideration;
second operating said computer-based processing tool to process said second quantity of information relative to said identified set of semantic elements so as to convert at least a portion of said second quantity of information into a third semantic environment, thereby providing one or more converted semantic elements, wherein second elements of said second quantity of information are uniquely associated with said converted semantic elements such that each of said second elements corresponds to a defined one of said first elements; and
using said converted semantic elements to process said electronic communication under consideration.

Abstract
A method and apparatus are disclosed for transforming information from one semantic environment to another. In one implementation, a SOLx system includes a Normalization/Translation NorTran Workbench and a SOLx server. The NorTran Workbench is used to develop a knowledge base based on information from a source system, to normalize legacy content according to various rules, and to develop a database of translated content. During run time, the SOLx server receives transmissions from the source system, normalizes the transmitted content, accesses the database of translated content and otherwise translates the normalized content, and reconstructs the transmission to provide substantially real-time transformation of electronic messages.
