1. A light-emitting diode lamp comprising a support and an array of light emitting diodes on the support, the light-emitting diode lamp having an optical axis, wherein:

  • diodes in the array increase in number in a first direction with increasing distance from the optical axis in a second direction, the second direction being at right angles to the first direction; and

    the propagation direction of light from at least some of the diodes increases in inclination to the optical axis with increasing distance of the diode from the optical axis in the second direction,thereby providing substantially uniform illumination within a plane lying at right angles to the optical axis.
