Waveform interpreter for respiratory analysis
First Claim
1. Apparatus for computerized breath analysis comprising:
- a breath receiver adapted to be placed in fluid communication with a subject;
a breath analyzer coupled to said breath receiver which analyzes at least one breath of the subject, wherein said apparatus provides an indication of the discrepancy between the end tidal carbon dioxide partial pressure in breath of the subject and the arterial carbon dioxide partial pressure of the subject; and
a corrector unit connected to said breath analyzer and operative to provide an indication of the arterial carbon dioxide partial pressure of the subject based on said discrepancy.

Abstract
A capnograph which performs an analysis of the breath waveforms measured by the carbon dioxide sensor, interprets the results of this analysis, and outputs to the operator diagnostic information about the respiratory status of the patient, or about the adequacy of the breathing support provided to the patient. The instrument compares a number of parameters characteristic of the waveforms of the patient'"'"'s breath with an internal library of the values of those parameters expected from normal waveforms stored in its memory. These parameters may either relate to specific features of the waveform in the time domain, or may characterize spectral components of the waveform in the frequency domain. The capnographic waveform analysis may be combined with further non-invasive measurements in order to provide an indication of the deviation of the value of EtCO2 from PaCO2.

22. Apparatus for computerized breath analysis comprising:
-
a breath receiver adapted to be placed in fluid communication with a subject; a gas analyzer coupled to said breath receiver for measuring the carbon dioxide partial pressure of said breath; a capnographic interpreter unit coupled to said breath analyzer which analyzes carbon dioxide waveform shape of at least one breath of the subject for its carbon dioxide content and provides at least one waveform output parameter characteristic of said waveform shape; a respiration diagnosis generator; and at least one input receiving at least one non-respiratory measurement made on the subject; wherein said respiration diagnosis generator provides a diagnostic determination of the respiratory state of the subject based on said at least one waveform output parameter and on said at least one non-respiratory measurement. - View Dependent Claims (23)
