Abstract

A shotgun comprises a receiver made from a first material; barrel having a portion extending into the receiver and made from a second material; a collar nut securing the barrel to the receiver; a bolt assembly disposed within the receiver and including a locking block configured to project into the barrel portion and lock the bolt assembly to the barrel prior to firing, the bolt assembly including a firing pin; and a trigger mechanism including a hammer for striking the firing pin.

Claims

1. A gun, comprising:

a) a receiver made from a first material;

b) a barrel having a portion extending into said receiver, said portion including an opening;

c) a collar nut securing said barrel to said receiver;

d) a bolt assembly disposed within said receiver and including a linearly retracting locking block configured to project into said barrel portion opening and lock said bolt assembly to said barrel prior to firing;

e) said bolt assembly including a firing pin; and

f) a trigger mechanism including a trigger and a hammer for striking said firing pin.

2. A gun as in claim 1, and further comprising:

a) a U-shaped bracket having a base portion positionable behind said trigger to prevent operation of said trigger.

3. A gun as in claim 2, and further comprising:

a) a pivotable pin having a flat surface positionable from a vertical to an inclined position, said pin is disposed below said hammer; and

b) said hammer includes an inclined flat surface adapted to engage said pin flat surface in a parallel and inclined configuration such that said hammer is prevented from pivoting even when released.

4. A gun as in claim 3, wherein:

a) said U-shaped bracket is secured to said pivotable pin such that when said bracket is lowered behind said trigger, said pin flat surface is inclined to engage said hammer inclined surface.

5. A gun as in claim 1, wherein said receiver is made from aluminum.

6. A gun as in claim 1, wherein said barrel is made from steel.

7. A gun as in claim 1, wherein said barrel extension is formed in one piece with said barrel.

8. A gun as in claim 1, and further comprising:

a) a pivotable frame including a member;

b) said frame is positionable to a first position wherein said member is disposed clear of said trigger; and

c) said frame is positionable to a second position wherein said member is disposed behind said trigger to prevent said trigger from being pulled back.

9. A gun as in claim 8, wherein said frame is U-shaped.

10. A gun as in claim 8, and further comprising a stop that holds said hammer even when released by said trigger when said frame is in said second position.

11. A gun as in claim 8, wherein:

a) said frame includes a pivot having a flat surface;

b) said flat surface is oriented vertically when said frame is in said first position and is inclined when said frame is in said second position; and

c) said flat surface is adapted to engage a corresponding flat surface on said hammer in a latching action when said frame is in said second position to hold said hammer even if released by said trigger.

12. A gun as in claim 1, and further comprising:

a) a pivot having a flat surface having first and second positions; and

b) said flat surface when in said first position is adapted to engage a corresponding flat surface on said hammer in a holding action when said hammer is in a cocked position, thereby to hold said hammer even if released by said trigger.

13. A gun as in claim 12, wherein said flat surface of said pivot is clear of a path of motion of said flat surface of said hammer when said hammer is released.

14. A gun as in claim 13, wherein said flat surface of said pivot is substantially vertical when in said second position.

15. A gun as in claim 1, wherein:

a) said trigger mechanism includes a latch configured to hold said hammer in a cocked position;

b) said trigger is operably connected to said latch such that pulling back said trigger is effective to move said latch and release said hammer; and

c) said trigger is movable through a first range of motion wherein said hammer is not released and a second range of motion wherein said hammer is released.

16. A gun as in claim 15, wherein:

a) said first range of motion is pivotal; and

b) said second range of motion is translatory.

17. A gun as in claim 15, wherein:

a) said trigger mechanism includes a slidable member;

b) said trigger is pivotable about said slidable member; and

c) said latch is constrained to a slidable motion.

18. A gun as in claim 17, wherein:

a) said trigger mechanism includes a housing;

b) said slidable member and said latch are disposed within said housing and slidable therewithin;

c) a member connects said slidable member to said latch; and

d) a spring urges said latch toward said hammer such that after said trigger is released, said latch moves toward said hammer.

19. A gun, comprising:

a) a receiver made from a first material;

b) barrel having a portion extending into said receiver and made from a second material;

c) a collar nut securing said barrel to said receiver;

d) a bolt assembly disposed within said receiver and including a locking block configured to project into said barrel portion and lock said bolt assembly to said barrel prior to firing;

e) said bolt assembly including a firing pin;

f) a trigger mechanism including a trigger and a hammer for striking said firing pin;

g) a pivotable pin having a flat surface positionable from a vertical to an inclined position, said pivotable pin is disposed below said hammer; and

h) said hammer including an inclined flat surface adapted to engage said flat surface of said pivotable pin in a parallel and inclined configuration such that said hammer is prevented from pivoting even when released.
