1. A film-coated article comprising:
- a substrate; and
a film that contains silicon oxide as a main component and that is formed on a surface of the substrate, wherein the film comprises minute projections and columnar projections, and the columnar projections are formed by local growth of the minute projections in the thickness direction of the film or formed with a plurality of minute particles that constitute the minute projections and that are stacked locally on the film, occupying not more than 50% of the surface of the film.

Abstract
The present invention provides a film-coated article coated by a film having silicon oxide as a main component, in which recesses and projections conferring super hydrophobicity or super hydrophilicity are formed. This film includes minute projections and columnar projections, and the columnar projections are formed by local growth of the minute projections in a thickness direction of the film or formed with a plurality of minute particles constituting the minute projections laminated locally.

11. A method for producing a film-coated article comprising a substrate and a film that contains silicon oxide as a main component and that is formed on a surface of the substrate, the method comprising:
-
applying a solution containing a silicon-containing material to a surface of the substrate; and keeping the substrate wetted with the solution for a time period sufficient for allowing formation of minute projections containing silicon supplied from the silicon-containing material and columnar projections on the surface of the substrate, the columnar projections being formed by local and irregular growth of the minute projections in a film thickness direction or being formed with a plurality of minute particles that constitute the minute projections and that are stacked locally on the surface of the film, occupying not more than 50% of the surface of the film. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18)
