1. A substrate for use in a liquid crystal display comprising:

  • an insulating substrate cooperating with an oppositely arranged opposite substrate to hold a liquid crystal;

    a pixel electrode formed in each of a plurality of pixel regions arranged in a matrix form on the insulating substrate;

    a switching element connected to the pixel electrode and a bus line;

    an external connection terminal for electrically connecting an external circuit and the bus line, the external connection terminal including a first terminal electrode electrically connected to the bus line, a second terminal electrode formed of a forming material of the pixel electrode and on the insulating substrate, and an electrode coupling region for electrically connecting the first and the second terminal electrodes; and

    an overcoat layer formed between the switching element and the pixel electrode and made of an insulating resin material,wherein the overcoat layer is not formed at least between the second terminal electrode and the insulating substrate.
