1. A method of sampling a Bayer image having two dimensional planes of red, green and blue pixels, the method including the steps of:

  • rotating the green plane by 45°

    to provide a rotated green plane having a relative rotational orientation;

    sequentially sampling m2 pixels in an m×

    m pixel block of the rotated green plane, thereby providing m2 samples of the rotated green plane, where m is an integer greater than 1;

    providing an address for the m2 samples by determining a starting address for a first of the samples, in response to the relative rotational orientation of the rotated green plane; and

    applying thereafter a predetermined fixed sequence of offsets to obtain addresses of the remaining samples of the rotated green plane.
