1. A method for increasing user capacity and high speed data service of wireless communication network comprising the steps of:
- receiving at a base station of the network an uplink communication signal from a first user of the network, wherein the uplink communication signal includes a request for data download;
determining whether the uplink communication signal further includes a request for a high-speed data service;
processing the uplink communication signal;
if the uplink communication signal does not include a request for a high-speed data service, providing the requested data download from the base station directly to the first user;
if the uplink communication signal includes a request for a high-speed data service, providing the requested data download from a remote emitter directly to the first user;
determining a first path loss from the first user to the remote emitter;
detecting a second user of the network;
determining a second path loss from the second user to the remote emitter;
if the second path loss is equal to or less than the first path loss, directly providing data download from the remote emitter to the second user; and
if the second path loss is greater than the first path loss, directly providing data download from the base station to the second user.

Abstract
The present invention relates to a system and method for extending the coverage area and communication capacity of a spread-spectrum based wireless network. The system comprises a unique dual-scale, asymmetrical cellular architecture for a wireless network, wherein the communication uplink is based on a macro-cellular system, and the communication downlink is based on a micro-cellular system. Through the user of remote downlink transmitters in the micro-cellular system, the present invention provides a cost effective solution for increasing communication capacity, extending coverage area, and providing high speed communication downlink.

9. A method for a providing a wireless communication network with increased user capacity and enhanced high speed data service, comprising:

providing a base station for serving a designated area of the network; providing a plurality of remote emitters associated with the network; detecting a plurality of user equipments (UEs) active in the network; obtaining a first list of UEs, from the detected UEs, that are active in the designated area; obtaining a list of one or more remote emitters, from the plurality of remote emitters, that is serving the designated area; commanding the first-listed UEs to monitor the listed one or more remote emitters; receiving reports from the detected UEs indicating a path loss between each one of the detected UEs and each one of the base station or remote emitters; determining whether any of the first-listed UEs desires an enhanced high speed data service; and if one of the listed UEs desires an enhanced high speed data service, designating the one UE as an enhanced UE and establishing a data link between the enhanced UE and the base station or one of the listed remote emitters with the most favorable path loss to the enhanced UE. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25)
