1. An apparatus for obtaining interstitial fluid from a patient, the apparatus comprising:
- a needle having a tip configured to penetrate into tissue laden with interstitial fluid when urged against skin, the needle defining a passage arranged to conduct interstitial fluid;
a test site in fluid communication with the needle; and
a spacing member having an interior space and a lower edge, the needle slidably engaging the spacing member wherein the needle tip extends from a first position within the interior space to a second position extending beyond the lower edge of the spacing member.

7. An apparatus for simultaneously collecting a sample of a patient'"'"'s body fluid and preparing a collected sample for subsequent testing for an analyte contained within the collected sample, the apparatus comprising:
-
a housing sized to be manipulated by a patient with a housing end for placement against a skin surface of the patient;
a penetration member carried on the housing, the penetration member having a protruding end protruding from the housing, the protruding end for penetrating into, but not through, the dermal layer of skin, upon placement of the housing end against the skin surface;
a test site carried on the housing; and
a fluid flow pathway from the protruding end to the test site for fluid to flow from the protruding end to the test site when the protruding end is penetrated into the skin surface. - View Dependent Claims (8)
