Abstract

The compressor head, internal and/or external discriminator, and manifold design in general utilize ball valves on the suction and discharge of a cylinder head in the recovery of refrigerant liquid and/or vapor. The device facilitates the flashing of liquid refrigerant pumped to the compressor which, in turn, assists to cool the compressor head. The flashing of liquid refrigerant to vapor also deters liquid transfer into the compressor enhancing performance thereof. The vapor passages within the discriminator, cylinder head and/or manifold are sized for receipt of spring actuated ball'"'"'s to open and/or close the vapor passages during suction and/or discharge of refrigerant vapor or liquid by the compressor.

Claims

1. A vacuum sensor comprising:

a heating transistor, the heating transistor arranged to generate heat;

a first temperature sensing transistor, the first temperature sensing transistor having a base electrically connected to a collector, the first temperature sensing transistor arranged to receive heat from the heating transistor;

a second temperature sensing transistor, the second temperature sensing transistor having a base electrically connected to a collector;

wherein a first voltage at an emitter of the first temperature sensing transistor and a second voltage at an emitter of the second temperature sensing transistor may be compared and converted into a vacuum measurement.

2. The vacuum sensor of claim 1, further comprising a circuit board, wherein the heating transistor, first temperature sensing transistor and second temperature sensing transistor are mounted to the circuit board.

3. The vacuum sensor of claim 2, wherein the heating transistor is mounted to the circuit board proximate to the first temperature sensing transistor.

4. The vacuum sensor of claim 2, wherein the heating transistor and the first temperature sensing transistor comprise a first dual-transistor integrated circuit.

5. The vacuum sensor of claim 4, wherein at least a portion of the circuit board material proximate to the heating transistor and the first temperature sensing transistor is removed.

6. The vacuum sensor of claim 2, further comprising an area of copper mounted on the circuit board, the area of copper being electrically connected to a trace, the trace being electrically connected to a terminal of the second temperature sensing transistor, the area of copper being substantially larger than the trace.

7. The vacuum sensor of claim 6, further comprising a metal well, the metal well being in thermal conductivity with the area of copper.

8. The vacuum sensor of claim 1, further comprising a well, the well in thermal conductivity with the second temperature sensing transistor and thermally insulated from the first temperature sensing transistor.

9. The vacuum sensor of claim 1, wherein the heating transistor is arranged to generate a level of heat within a predetermined range of heat.

10. The vacuum sensor of claim 1, wherein the heating transistor and the first temperature sensing transistor comprise a first dual-transistor integrated circuit.

11. The vacuum sensor of claim 10, wherein the second temperature sensing transistor and a fourth transistor comprise a second dual-transistor integrated circuit.

12. The vacuum sensor of claim 1, wherein a regulated supply voltage is provided to a collector of the heating transistor.

13. The vacuum sensor of claim 12, wherein the regulated supply voltage is provided to the collector of the first temperature sensing transistor and to the collector of the second temperature sensing transistor.

14. The vacuum sensor of claim 1, further comprising an operational amplifier, wherein an output of the operational amplifier is electrically connected to a base of the heating transistor.

15. The vacuum sensor of claim 14, wherein an input of the operational amplifier is electrically connected to an emitter of the heating transistor.

16. The vacuum sensor of claim 15, wherein the operational amplifier compares the voltage at the emitter of the heating transistor with a reference voltage and adjusts the voltage at the base of the heating transistor in order to regulate the voltage at the emitter of the heating transistor within a predetermined voltage range.

17. A vacuum sensor comprising:

a circuit board;

a regulated voltage supply line;

a heating transistor mounted to the circuit board, the heating transistor having a collector, a base and an emitter, the collector electrically connected to the regulated voltage supply line;

an operational amplifier, an output of the operational amplifier electrically connected to the base of the heating transistor, the operational amplifier arranged to compare a voltage at the emitter of the heating transistor with a voltage of the regulated voltage supply line;

a first temperature sensing transistor mounted to the circuit board proximate to the heating transistor, the first temperature sensing transistor having a base electrically connected to a collector;

a second temperature sensing transistor mounted to the circuit board, the second temperature sensing transistor having a base electrically connected to a collector;

wherein a first voltage at an emitter of the first temperature sensing transistor and a second voltage at an emitter of the second temperature sensing transistor may be compared and converted into a vacuum measurement.

18. The vacuum sensor of claim 17, wherein the heating transistor and the first temperature sensing transistor comprise a dual-transistor integrated circuit.

19. The vacuum sensor of claim 17, wherein the operational amplifier adjusts the current at the base of the heating transistor such that the heating transistor generates of a level of heat within a predetermined range of heat.

20. The vacuum sensor of claim 17, further comprising a well, the well in thermal conductivity with the second temperature sensing transistor and thermally insulated from the first temperature sensing transistor.
