1. A method for determining temperature of a first substance that is a component of a second substance, the method comprising:

  • acquiring a measurement of the absorption coefficient of the second substance at at least one wavelength for which the absorption coefficient of the second substance is substantially equal to the absorption coefficient of the first substance; and

determining the temperature of the first substance using the measurement of the absorption coefficient and known values of the absorption coefficient of the first substance as a function of temperature at the at least one wavelength.
