1. A method of operating an electric motor driven system comprising an electric motor and a control subsystem coupled to control the electric motor, the method comprising:

  • determining if an interruption of power to the control subsystem controlling the electric motor has occurred during at least one ON/OFF cycle of the electric motor driven system before a shutdown procedure is completed;

    delaying torque production of the electric motor if it is determined that an interruption of power to the electric motorcontrol subsystem has occurred during the at least one ON/OFF cycle of the electric motor;

    storing in a first nonvolatile memory location a value indicative of a number of times the control subsystem has executed a shut down procedure; and

    storing in a second nonvolatile memory location a value indicative of a number of times that the control subsystem has started.
