A fiber optic connector for terminating an optical fiber, wherein the fiber is surrounded by at least one diffuser through which radiant energy that fails to couple to the fiber passes, wherein said diffuser is a member that surrounds the fiber, said diffuser being arranged to dissipate said radiant energy as it passes through said member, and said member having an axis and end surfaces perpendicular to said axis.
