Abstract

One embodiment of the invention provides a method for processing actuator, sensor or radio frequency identification (RFID) tag data. The method includes receiving actuator, sensor or RFID tag data and generating a Java object associated with the actuator, sensor or RFID tag data. The Java object includes an assigned destination address. The method further includes forwarding the Java object to the assigned destination address.

Claims

1. A method for processing actuator, sensor or radio frequency identification (RFID) tag data comprising:

receiving actuator, sensor or RFID tag data;

generating an object of an object-oriented programming environment associated with the actuator, sensor or RFID tag data;

wherein generating an object within an object-oriented programming environment involves explicitly creating the object as an instance of the class of the received data, and wherein the object includes an assigned destination address; and

forwarding the object to the assigned destination address.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the object is a Java object.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein generating an object associated with the actuator, sensor or RFID tag data comprises assigning a time to live value to the object.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the destination address is an Internet Protocol address.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein forwarding the object to the assigned destination address comprises initiating a TCP/IP connection.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein receiving actuator, sensor or RFID tag data comprises:

receiving RF signals from an RFID tag at a network node; and

decoding the RFID tag data in the RF signals to obtain RFID tag data.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the RFID tag data is received using Electronic Product Code High Frequency or Ultra High Frequency protocol.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the actuator, sensor or RFID tag data is received using multiple protocols.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein generating an object associated with the actuator, sensor or RFID tag data comprises encapsulating the actuator, sensor or RFID tag data in the object.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein generating an object associated with the actuator, sensor or RFID tag data comprises analyzing the actuator, sensor or RFID tag data.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein analyzing the actuator, sensor or RFID tag data comprises using a lookup table to obtain an actuator, sensor or RFID tag data correlation.

12. The method of claim 1, further comprising logging events associated with the object creation and forwarding.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the object is generated in a Java 2 Platform Micro Edition application environment.

14. The method of claim 1, further comprising broadcasting the object across a network.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein the assigned destination address is obtained from a lookup table.

16. The method of claim 1, further comprising forwarding the object to an intermediary address.

17. A computer readable storage medium storing instructions that when executed by a computer cause the computer to perform a method for processing actuator, sensor or radio frequency identification (RFID) tag data, comprising:

receiving actuator, sensor or RFID tag data;

generating a Java object associated with the actuator, sensor or RFID tag data;

wherein generating a Java object involves explicitly creating the object as an instance of the class of the received data, and wherein the Java object includes an assigned destination address; and

forwarding the Java object to the assigned destination address.

18. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein generating a Java object associated with the actuator, sensor or RFID tag data comprises assigning a time to live value to the Java object.

19. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the destination address is an Internet Protocol address.

20. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein forwarding the Java object to the assigned destination address comprises initiating a TCP/IP connection.

21. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein receiving actuator, sensor or RFID tag data comprises:

receiving RF signals from an RFID tag at a network node; and

decoding the RFID tag data in the RF signals to obtain RFID tag data.

22. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the RFID tag data is received using Electronic Product Code High Frequency or Ultra High Frequency protocol.

23. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the actuator, sensor or RFID tag data is received using multiple protocols.

24. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein generating a Java object associated with the actuator, sensor or RFID tag data comprises encapsulating the actuator, sensor or RFID tag data in the Java object.

25. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein generating a Java object associated with the actuator, sensor or RFID tag data comprises analyzing the actuator, sensor or RFID tag data.

26. The computer readable storage medium of claim 25, wherein analyzing the actuator, sensor or RFID tag data comprises using a lookup table to obtain a actuator, sensor or RFID tag data correlation.

27. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the method further comprises logging events associated with the Java object creation and forwarding.

28. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the Java object is generated in a Java 2 Platform Micro Edition application environment.

29. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the method further comprises broadcasting the Java object across a network.

30. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the assigned destination address is obtained from a lookup table.

31. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the method further comprises forwarding the Java object to an intermediary address.

32. An apparatus for processing actuator, sensor or radio frequency identification (RFID) tag data comprising:

a receiving mechanism for receiving actuator, sensor or RFID tag data;

an object creation mechanism for generating a Java object associated with the actuator, sensor or RFID tag data;

wherein generating a Java object involves explicitly creating the object as an instance of the class of the received data, and wherein the Java object includes an assigned destination address; and

a communication mechanism for forwarding the Java object to the assigned destination address.

33. The apparatus of claim 32, wherein the destination address is an Internet Protocol address.

34. The apparatus of claim 32, further comprising a logging mechanism for logging events associated with the Java object creation and forwarding.

35. The apparatus of claim 32, wherein the assigned destination address is obtained from a lookup table.
