a security system comprising a flexible element/tether having a length and connected between the portable article and a support to confine movement of the portable article within a range dictated by the length of the flexible element/tether,wherein the flexible element/tether comprises a flexible core and a protective layer over the core,the protective layer comprising a material that is resistant to being cut to thereby avoid severance of the flexible core,wherein the security system further comprises a housing on the support into which the flexible element/tether can be directed and from which the flexible element/tether can be withdrawn to vary an effective length of the flexible element/tether between the portable article and support.
