1. A method for operating a cardiac pacemaker, comprising:
- sensing a ventricle designated as a rate chamber through a ventricular sensing channel and generating a ventricular sense upon detection of depolarization occurring in the rate chamber;
pacing a ventricle contralateral to the rate chamber, designated as a synchronized chamber, at a specified pacing instant defined with respect to expiration of a rate chamber escape interval, wherein the rate chamber escape interval is reset by a rate chamber sense but not reset by a synchronized chamber sense; and
,decreasing the rate chamber escape interval toward a lower limit value after a ventricular sense and increasing the rate chamber escape interval toward an upper limit value after a ventricular pace.

A method and system for operating a cardiac rhythm management device which employs pacing therapy to regularize the ventricular rhythm. Such ventricular rate regularization may be employed with conventional bradycardia pacing, ventricular resynchronization therapy, or anti-tachyarrhythmia therapy.

a rate chamber sensing channel for sensing a ventricle designated as a rate chamber and generating a ventricular sense upon detection of a depolarization occurring in the rate chamber; a ventricular pacing channel for pacing a ventricle contralateral to the rate chamber, designated as a synchronized chamber; a controller programmed to deliver a ventricular pace to the synchronized chamber at a specified pacing instant defined with respect to expiration of a rate chamber escape interval, wherein the rate chamber escape interval is reset by a rate chamber sense but not reset by a synchronized chamber sense; and
