1. A system for determining one or both of speed and distance traveled of a moving person comprising:
- at least one sensor for insertion into a shoe and for generating signals indicative of movement of the shoe;
a processor configured to process the signals to determine at least one of the speed and distance traveled of a person wearing a shoe incorporating the sensor; and
a wireless transmitter configured to wirelessly transmit information indicative of at least one of the speed and distance traveled to a receiving device, the receiving device comprising an MP3 player configured to be worn by the person and having a wireless receiver to receive the information.

Abstract
Methods are disclosed for determining speed or distance traveled of moving persons by utilizing sensors selectively insertable within shoes. Shoe based systems employing sensors (e.g., accelerometers) are disclosed to determine and report (e.g., via a watch or MP3 player) speed and/or distance traveled.

11. In a shoe, the improvement comprising:
-
a movement monitoring device for selective insertion within the shoe, the movement monitoring device being non-interfering with normal wear of the shoe by a person and configured to generate wireless motion signals indicative of one or both of speed and distance traveled of the movement monitoring device when inserted within the shoe; and a receiver comprising an MP3 player for capturing the wireless motion signals when worn by the person. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16)
