1. A portable coordinate measurement machine (CMM) for measuring the position of an object in a selected volume, comprising:

  • a manually positionable articulated arm having opposed first and second ends, said arm including a plurality of jointed arm segments, each arm segment including at least one position transducer for producing a position signal;

    a measurement probe attached to a first end of said articulated arm;

    at least two of said jointed arm arm segments comprising a plurality of structural components, said structural components cooperating to transfer rotation along said articulated arm, at least some of said structural components being bonded to each other using adhesive, said two jointed arm segments being attached to each other at predetermined angles wherein said plurality of structural components in each of said two jointed arm segments include at least one socket joint, said structural components being adhesively attached to said socket joints; and

    an electronic circuit which receives the position signals from the transducers and provides digital coordinate corresponding to the position of the probe in a selected volume.
