1. A method of making a vaccine from one or more infectious particles comprising:

  • inactivating the infectious particles by adding an effective amount of an endogengous isoalloxazine photosensitizer to the one or more infectious particles and exposing the particles to light of a sufficient wavelength to prevent replication of the infectious particles but not substantially destroy the antigenic determinants of the particles; and

    suspending the inactivated particles in a suspension solution to create a vaccine.
